PERSONALISED TUTORING SUPPORT
Many learners in the 21st Century fall behind National Benchmark levels for a variety of reasons. The main areas of concern are Literacy and Numeracy. These are the ‘essential learning’ areas that learners need to succeed in to be able to cope in the global arena.
LEARNERS STRUGGLING WITH BASIC ESSENTIALS IN LITERACY AND NUMERACY
The intervention strategies applied by Nybro Education Services will most certainly ‘narrow the gap’ in Literacy and Numeracy in the essential areas such as Spelling, Reading, Writing and basic numeration knowledge. Initially the learner will undergo ‘socio-linguistic profiling’ to establish prior learning, background information and levels in terms of Literacy and Numeracy. Having ascertained the learner’s levels, the learner will then have a ‘jumping off’ point to start personalized face to face learning combined with intervention strategies in Literacy and Numeracy where the support is more learner centered than content driven. The learner’s progress will be mapped with regular feedback to parents.- Assess and evaluate student levels in terms of Benchmark levels in Literacy and Numeracy through Socio-Linguistic profiling;
- Tutor students who struggle with proficiency in Standard Australian English (SAE) through ESL Intervention Strategies;
- Tutor students who need to ‘bridge the gap’ in basic Literacy and Numeracy in order to reach National Benchmark levels through intervention strategies;
- Upskill students in basic planning and independent study skills.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) LEARNERS
The focus is on achieving proficiency in Standard Australian English (SAE) to enable learners to cope with the demands of Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) Curriculum demands in mainstream schooling. The learners will be supported through an ESL approach whereby SAE is taught as a second dialect through explicit tutoring. The acquisition of proficiency in Standard Australian English will become more meaningful for the learners when they realise that they are involved in the learning process in partnership with the tutor.
LEARNERS STRUGGLING WITH THE TRANSITION FROM REMOTE AREAS TO REGIONAL AREAS
They cannot cope with aspects of mainstream schooling such as following school procedures and protocols, researching information, planning in order to cope with assignment tasks and handing in on time. Learners will be guided through a Study Skills Program which will enable them to become independent and focussed learners.
